54XX Base Logic Unit as Printer Protocol Converter

TO SETUP THE 54XX AS A PROTOCOL CONVERTER, PERFORM THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE:

1. CONNECT ANY PC VGA MONITOR TO THE VGA PORT ON THE LOGIC UNIT
2. CONNECT ANY PC KEYBOARD THE KEYBOARD PORT ON THE LOGIC UNIT
3. CONNECT POWER TO THE MONITOR AND LOGIC UNIT
4. CONNECT PRINTER TO PARALLEL PORT
5. POWER ON 54XX WITH SPACE BAR DOWN
6. GO TO CUSTOMIZE WORKSTATION
7. SET NUMBER OF DISPLAY SESSIONS TO 0
8. SET NUMBER OF PRINTER SESSION TO 1
9. SET ADDRESS OF PRINTER AND SET PRINTER TYPE TO 5224, 5256, 5319,4214 or 3812
10. GO TO PRINTER CONFIGURATION
11. SELECT THE APPROPRITATE OR CLOSEST PRINTER FROM THE LIST
12. HIT F3 UNTIL YOU GO ON-LINE
13. HIT SETUP KEY TO DISPLAY "ONLINE SETUP MENU"
14. GO TO BROWSE PRINTER INFORMATION
15. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE PRINTER READY (WHICH MEANS THE 54XX IS TALKING TO THE PRINTER) AND SYSTEM AVAILABLE (WHICH MEANS THE 54XX IS TALKING TO THE HOST)
16. HIT F3 KEY TO RETURN TO SIGN ON SCREEN, YOU ARE READY TO SEND PRINT JOBS TO THIS PRINTER FROM THE HOST
17. USE AUTO CONFIG IF YOU ARE USING AN AS/400, THIS WILL ASSURE THAT THE DEVICE TYPE MATCHES ON BOTH THE AS/400 CONFIGURATION, AND ON THE 54XX TERMINAL

NOTES FOR SETTING UP BAR CODE PRINTERS:

• If you are using a thermal bar code printer, on an AS/400 with TL Ashford software, set Printer Emulation to 5256 and Printer type to Other Printers.

• If you are using a thermal bar code printer, on an AS/36 or S/36 with TL Ashford software, set Printer Emulation to 5256 and Printer type to Other Printers and call TL Ashford technical support for Hex Transparent Lead and End Codes to be entered into the Printer Support screen on the logic unit.

• If you are using a thermal bar code printer and controlling it via RPG (not using 3rd party bar code software), set Printer Emulation to 5256, Printer type to Other Printers and call CLI Technical support (or check www.computerlab.com) and request Technical Tip document BAR_PRNT for additional setup parameters
