Incompatible Terminal Printers
Updated 07/07/98
The new class of "Windows Printers" cannot be used as a terminal printer as Windows is required for their operation. Such printers are generally labeled as "Windows" compatible.
A partial list of such printers follows:
Discussion
A relatively new class of printers requires Windows in order to drive them. These
"Windows Printers" are cost reduced by removing the printer command logic from
the printer. This logic is moved to a "Windows Driver" which converts
print commands and print data to bit stream block for the basic print engine of the
printer. Windows (the PC) does a lot more work and the printer a lot less. A
fast PC is required for good performance.
Terminal Printer Emulation (INFOPRO 5250 Emulation)
With INFOPRO/32 for Windows 95/98/NT, these "Windows Printers" may be used; but
the "Windows Print Manager" option in Printer Configuration must be selected.
The "Print Direct to Printer" option cannot be used as this option
requires a Driver be selected and no such Driver exists for these printers.
