The cornerstone concept behind
CLI thin clients is server-based computing, which is sometimes referred to as
server-centric, centralized, application-server, or SBC. The basis for the thin
client was the Network Computer concept first popularized by Sun.
In SBC, all applications are
deployed, support ed, and executed at the server, not at the user desktop. And
all data is stored on the server. Only keystrokes, mouse clicks, and the screen
images travel across the network. And like the original network computer
concept, all applications are displayed on the thin client desktop device.
Unlike the original concept
behind the Network Computer, all CLI thin clients locally boot and use industry
standard, locked-down operating systems. This allows for compatibility with a
wide variety of applications with the assurance that the platform has broad
support and industry backing. CLI uses Windows XPe, Windows CE and Linux
embedded operating systems to power our thin clients.
The use of CLI thin clients
within SBC brings many benefits, including easy administration and management,
high reliability / long useful life, low power consumption, high security,
extreme simplicity, and above all else, very low Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
In fact, when using CLI thin clients, estimates put TCO between 20% and 75% less
than that of using PCs.
CLI thin clients are compatible
with many SBC environments, including Microsoft Windows Terminal Services,
Citrix Application Delivery Infrastructure, and VMware Virtual Desktop
Infrastructure, as well as legacy environments such as IBM and HP, and web-based
environments.
