What this patch does:
When you connect to a terminal server, the local time information is passed to the server to calculate the time to be displayed on the session. If the client does not have this patch or the firmware update (see below), the time will be calculated incorrectly by the terminal server on March 11, 2007.
Which products is this patch for:The following firmware versions already contain the DST 2000 logic and do not require the patch: E0441L/E0441L, E0441, E5427, E5510.6, R1210.8
What this patch does not do:
It does not affect the local time on
the client.
Note: Virtually all implementations of this product do not use the local time for display purposes. Also, no update is required for the terminal to maintain accurate UTC time applications such as SSL.
Why you would want to use this
patch:
If you are using an RDP
or ICA session to a Win2003 server, it will ensure the local time is represented
properly on the RDP/ICA session.
Why you would want to use the
firmware update:
You display the local
time on the client or you are using an RDP or ICA session to a Win2003 server.
The Windows CE firmware update for DST affects the client’s local time as well as RDP/ICA time.
Note: The firmware update incorporates a complete patch solution from Microsoft for this issue. The DST patch (DST-PATCH.BIN) was engineered and tested by CLI. Because some customer environments vary, you should do thorough testing of the patch (DST-PATCH.BIN) to ensure it works properly in your environment.
Why you would not patch or
update the terminal:
If you are not using RDP
or ICA, or displaying the local time on the client, there is no need to update
the firmware or patch the registry on the client.
In other words, you are not using any application that references the client time or it’s time zone offset. Examples are Web, terminal emulation and Windows 2000 RDP server applications.
